Despite an enormous catalogue of works, composer and conductor Franco Mannino programmed very few of his own compositions during his tenure as music director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Here is an opportunity to hear one of his large-scale works with the Orchestra’s concertmaster in the solo role.

This five-movement symphony was inspired by Big Rideau Lake in Ottawa, where Italian composer Franco Mannino (also serving as Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra at the time) had been invited to stay at the summer residence of Hamilton Southam, the Centre’s first Director General.
