Healey Willan’s Piano concerto, one of the earliest significant examples by a prominent Canadian composer, was written near the mid-point of the twentieth century, but it sounds for all the world like a throwback to the era of romanticism in its soaring lines, richly textured orchestration and structural design reminiscent of Liszt.
