Hayes, Gary
Serenade for trumpet, English horn and stringsComposer: Hayes, Gary
Performance date: January 23, 1985

Date composed: 1984

A serenade in classical music is generally seen as lightweight piece in several movements of pleasing character and easy listening. In this respect, Gary Hayes’ music fits the bill. What is unusual about it is the two featured instruments, one woodwind (English horn, which, despite its totally inapt designation, is neither English nor a horn) and one brass (trumpet).
