Ana Sokolovic’s Concerto for Orchestra draws on inspiration from two great composers, Beethoven and Rossini. “One offers deeply thought-out music,” says Sokolovic, “the other a lighter, more approachable style. These two composers stirred in me the desire to create a piece all in dualities, particularly between the harmonic and melodic aspects, between the behavior of instrumental groups, between the material and its treatment, and finally, through a kind of discourse that alternates between action and introspection.
